Head Boy, Daniel joined LVS Oxford in Year 7. Currently in Year 11, he is looking forward to taking his next step, which he hopes will be to study computing at college.

Along with his Head Boy duties, which include being part of the team that greets prospective parents to show them around the school, Daniel is also the editor of the school’s student newsletter – he even designed the newsletter logo.

“The newsletter goes out to students and parents at the end of the term, so everyone gets a chance to read about what we have all being doing. I get other students to write for it too and we share stories about the things we’ve been involved with at school,” he says.

“It’s such a nice setting and the classes are small. The teachers understand you and the students all understand each other.”

Daniel’s favourite subject is computing, where he learns about making spreadsheets, adding data, and also how to use Microsoft Office and Word. He knows how to design posters and, of course, logos.

School is helping Daniel prepare himself for the transition to college. “They’ve taken me for a tour of the college and helped me understand what to expect from the course. Computing is a very competitive course, and while I’m really hoping to get in, they’ve also explained to me that there is a foundation pathway, which will lead me onto the same course eventually. It’s a big step, but I am feeling confident, especially as school has given me a good sense of what is going to be ahead.”

Along with computing, Daniel is also taking geography, English, maths and science at GCSE and has been working hard on revising. On Friday afternoons, to wind-down, ready for the weekend, students enjoy enrichment club, where they can do anything from football to art classes. Daniel has chosen drama and is in the process of writing a play, which he hopes will be performed at the end of term.

“I was really inspired by the school’s Christmas play, which was written by a student. I know that lots of other people are writing plays so, so there will be competition, but I’m hoping I’m ahead as I’ve almost finished mine – it’s about a parallel world, where everything is topsy turvy. The complete opposite of here!”

His life at LVS Oxford has been full of positive experiences, says Daniel as he reflects on his time there. “I’d never felt excited about going to school before, whereas once I came here, I would be up every morning ready to go. It’s such a nice setting and the classes are small. The teachers understand you and the students all understand each other. I really look forward to my lessons.”

A big plus point, adds Daniel, is that the school doesn’t give homework. “If I get home, not in the best of moods, I would feel worse knowing I’ve got homework due the next morning. Instead, when I get home, I want to have my dinner and relax.”
