Our Campus
At LVS Oxford, our pupils learn a range of academic and vocational skills in a vibrant and stimulating environment. We are located on a converted priory, providing a purpose-designed workspace for everyone.
Our pupils benefit from excellent facilities supported by areas for work-related learning including food-technology for hospitality and art & design. We have extensive grounds used for horticulture, health & fitness and outdoor learning activities.
Wildlife & Animals
Due to its location, LVS Oxford has an abundance of wildlife in and around the campus. Horses are often grazing in an adjoining field and both buzzards and red kites are regular visitors, often found sitting on fence posts around our meadow.
Peaceful Setting
We are perfectly situated in the village of Begbroke along the A44 bus route between Oxford city centre and Blenheim Palace. This gives our students opportunities for local work experience, travel training, community interaction and learning trips in Begbroke, Blenheim and Oxford.
Despite the easy transport links, we are all set within a tranquil and relaxing green campus away from the busy centre of town.
Classrooms
We have a range of facilities, but our Churchill building in particular is our new, practical learning centre, with bespoke classrooms for food technology, science and art & design. From this location students engage in practical learning both in and beyond the classroom, for example working in our cafe and getting involved in regular enterprise opportunities.
Our recently installed science lab has proved a huge hit with students, enabling them to undertake practical experiments to support their learning and achieve hands on knowledge for qualification.
Horticulture
The outstanding setting of the school offers us ample opportunities to further inspire and support young people’s complex needs in their journey towards adulthood and independent living.
With raised beds, a polytunnel and an orchard, students can gain experience in a range of horticulture processes. These include our Learning for Life (KS3) and Ready for Life (KS4) pathways, through which our young people gain real-life experiences and qualifications leading to the very best employment opportunities.
Dining Hall
Healthy eating plays an important part of daily life at LVS Oxford. Our enthusiastic catering staff have established a great rapport with our students and work hard to get them to expand the range of foods they eat. Our Dining Hall and servery is located in an old church building.
There is always a strong emphasis on fresh produce and a balanced diet. We aim to help students to recognise that healthy eating is critical for their all-round wellbeing.
Historic Location
Our campus is situated in an historic area dating back to a medieval settlement that was mentioned in the Domesday Book.
The central part of our main building dates from the 1660s when it was built as Begbroke House, a manor house later owned by the Dukes of Marlborough. You can still see evidence of this in our reception area and the estate grounds.
Also very visible is the site’s later use as a Victorian priory, complete with its own chapel (incorporating beautiful stained glass) which is now our dining hall.
Maze & Meadow
The maze and meadow provide a relaxing environment for the LVS Oxford students to enjoy time away from the classroom and in nature.
The maze was designed by the students as an element of their horticulture programme.
Our meadow is a great resource for outdoor learning and the horses pastured in the meadow provide our students with the opportunity to learn horse care skills too.
Library
Our school library boasts an extensive collection of books, covering various genres and reading levels. With a diverse selection, it accommodates the interests and abilities of all students. Teachers are always available to provide support and guidance, facilitating access to resources tailored to individual needs.
From picture books to informational texts, the library offers a range of materials to promote literacy and learning. Its welcoming atmosphere encourages students to explore, discover, and engage with literature.
Physical Activity
We have grass football pitches outdoors and large fields for students to take part in multiple activities. There is also an outdoor gym area with functional equipment for students to use to keep them active and healthy, whilst also having fun. In the same area, there is a sunken trampoline, a swing and an outdoor tennis table.
Students are encouraged to engage in regular health, fitness and enrichment activities within lessons and during breaks and lunch times.
The Yurt
The Yurt is used as a creative space, most notably for drama and outdoor learning activities but is also utilised as an alternative learning space for subjects and classes across the school. It provides a calm space where students can learn to communicate and interact outside a normal classroom environment.
