Begbroke Playgroup
Begbroke Playgroup is a small and friendly nursery for children aged between two and five years old. It has been working with LVS Oxford for the last five years, offering work placements to students with an interest in childcare.
The partnership has been successful for both the students on the work placement schemes, as well as for the nursery’s children and other staff, says General Manager Karen Smale (pictured). “We have found it a very positive experience. The students from LVS Oxford are all outstanding individuals who have all fitted in really well. It has been good to see how quickly they have bonded with the children here.”
Currently, Begbroke Playgroup has two LVS Oxford students on weekly work placements, with one student coming into the nursery for one afternoon a week, while the other – who has been on a placement scheme for 18 months and is also studying for her Level 2 qualification in Childcare – is there for a full day and an afternoon.
“It has been good to see how the students have gained confidence and really settle into the role the longer they are here with us.”
Karen said, “The children absolutely love them because the students always interact so well with them. And they also create strong working relationships with the other adults working here too.”
Begbroke Playgroup has been so impressed by the outstanding quality of the students from LVS Oxford that Karen says they would welcome applications from school leavers for any full-time roles that may arise.
