LVS Oxford held its annual sports day on Friday 22nd June, one of the highlights of the school calendar.
As a growing school with a number of new students having joined recently, sports day was a fantastic inclusive event to bring students and families together to enjoy the social side of LVS Oxford.
Sports day also gave students the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities, try new things that they might not normally choose to do and build their confidence by achieving things in sports they might not have realised they were talented at. With teachers on hand to help and guide students on technique, they were able to try out throwing events such as javelin, discus and even wellie wanging, other field events such as long jump, football skills and a variety of field events in the school’s beautiful grounds.
Head Girl Caitlin said: “I love that the teams are made up of students across the school so we get to mingle with people from different classes. It’s a really fun day and I like that staff and parents can join in too.”
Sixth former Ethan Hawkins said: ”Sports day was fantastic. I really enjoyed doing the long jump and did quite a bit of training for the 400 metres. I came second so I was happy with that. Sport motivates me to push myself harder in all areas of my life. The weather and the atmosphere have been brilliant.”
Parents and teachers were able to take part against the students in the always entertaining tug of war event, and then regain their energy with a superb barbecue to round off a truly inclusive and enjoyable day for everyone.
Head of School Louisa Allison-Bergin said: “Sports Day is one of the highlights of our school year. I’m delighted that so many students were able to take part and have a go at the wide variety of sporting activities on offer.”
