Learners Develop Teamwork And Confidence At Football Festival

Students from LVS Oxford were able to demonstrate their footballing skills during last month’s SEN Football Festival at the Oxford Academy School.  The team, which was made up of three KS4 Students and two 6th Formers, needed all their strength and stamina as they played a total of seven matches against teams from participating schools from across the county.

Across their seven games, the team won three, drew three and only lost one, scoring an impressive 12 goals in total.  At the end of the day, each student was presented with a certificate and a goodie bag for taking part.

Oxfordshire FA organised the event to commemorate the opening of Oxford Academy’s new 3G pitch.  The games were watched by professional players from Oxford United, and students from LVS Oxford were able to have photos taken with strikers Rob Hall and Jonathan Obika.

Katie Gatt, LVS Oxford’s PE teacher, comments “It was a brilliant day and the boys represented the school fantastically.  I was really proud of the way they conducted themselves on and off the pitch.  They learnt about sportsmanship, good etiquette and what it means to be part of a team.”

Bradley, who has been a student at LVS Oxford since it opened in 2014, said: “I really enjoyed playing against the other teams and I thought our team played really well.  I’m an Oxford United supporter so once I was over the shock of seeing the players there it was great to meet them.  They said we played well so that gave us all a boost when we were tired at the end of the day.”

Football is one of the most popular sports at LVS Oxford and the students are always looking for opportunities to play against other schools.  There are plans to hold another tournament at the Oxford Academy School next year and LVS Oxford will definitely be sending a team along again.
