LVS Oxford is pleased to announce the appointment of Jane Straw as Head of Centre at the school opening in Begbroke, Oxfordshire in September 2014.
Jane's appointment marks a milestone in the countdown to opening of the school which will support 16 pupils in September building to 70 over four years.
Sarah Sherwood, Director of Special Education Needs said: "Jane is the perfect person for this role, having worked in the special education sector for many years she has the experience required to ensure that the needs of the new learners are met."
Jane initially trained as a Secondary Music Teacher in 1997. Her experience as the mother of a severely disabled daughter engendered a passion for working with children with learning disabilities and her second post was as an SEN Teacher and Behaviour Manager at a large comprehensive school with 2,400 pupils.
Her next senior leadership role was as Assistant Head Teacher in charge of SEN in another mainstream comprehensive school where inclusion was highly valued. There she set up and led three separate provisions for pupils with autism, severe learning difficulties and challenging behaviour. Inspectors described these as being ‘at the forefront of the sector'.
After 10 years specialising in SEN in mainstream schools, Jane, moved into the private special school sector, taking on the role of Deputy Head in a new residential school for pupils with autism in Gloucestershire which she helped to establish.
Jane says: "I am looking forward to preparing for the school's opening in September and to meeting the new students, parents and members of staff that I will be working with."
Students make good progress in their learning because they are taught well and they follow a good, creative and innovative curriculum that meets their needs.
